What to bring with you: personal and official documents, (passport, birth certificate, marriage certificates, driving licence, medical history etc.) jewellery, money, some clothes, toys (if you have children), pets, your car…

Once you have bought your property, there are several things to do before moving to Spain:

• Make a list of all people/organizations to notify yournew address and phone number (if available).
• Complete Postal Service change of address forms and mail them to all subscriptions
• Get copies of (or arrange for transfer at both ends of move) all school, medical, dental, veterinary, legal, and accounting records.
• Collect all important papers (insurance, will, deeds, stocks, etc.)
• Arrange to close all local bank accounts and open new ones in the bank of your choice. Transfer or withdraw all funds from local banks.
• Contact insurance agents to transfer or cancel coverage.
• Locate and obtain all automobile licensing and registration information.
• The cost of moving to Spain can vary a lot, so ask the moving company for the final price, including packing, loading, special charges, insurance, vehicles (if needed), etc.
• Contact with the utility companies (gas, water, electric, cable TV, phone) to set connect/disconnect dates. Remember to keep current utilities hooked up until move day.
• Make arrangements for relocation of pets and plants.
• Move valuables to safe deposit box to prevent loss during move.
• Before moving to Spain, contact your moving company counsellor to review and confirm all arrangements for your move.
• Prepare specific directions to your new property, including your travel itinerary and emergency numbers. Obtain routing information from the moving-van driver.
• Make plans to care for small children the day you’re moving.
• Separate luggage items you need for personal travel so they don't get packed on the truck.
• Arrange to have utilities turned on at your new property.
